  ???FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS???

What grade of titanium is used?

  • The grade used for Wes & Gold jewelry is G-2, which is commercially pure.

Do rivets, when they protrude on the inside of the ring, change the size?

  • No, the rivets make no difference to the size, but if you tried to check the size of that ring on a mandrel, it would measure as a smaller size but it would still fit as the finger will conform to the rivets.

How tightly should a ring fit?

  • A ring, which is slightly larger, will accommodate a wider range of body temperature fluctuations, which might otherwise make it too tight. In order to ensure against the risk of losing the ring the suggestion is made to wear a keeper ring, which is a narrower band and can be up to a half size smaller to keep the larger ring in place

Can a ring be polished once it is completed?

  • No.

Can a ring be sized after completion?

  • No.

How can the ring be cleaned?

  • Clean with a toothbrush and liquid dish detergent. If the ring has stones in it a small ultra-sonic cleaner that is available for about $34 will do an excellent job of cleaning.

Is it true that a titanium ring cannot be cut off in an emergency?

  • No. We have tested a number of titanium rings with the cutting tools usually used by jewelry stores, hospitals or emergency crews and there is no problem with cutting the metal. Two cuts will have to be made as the metal will not bend easily. The cuts should avoid the hardened stainless steel balls or any stones.

The metals used in Wes' jewelry are primarily titanium and 24K (pure) gold..

Both metals are pure forms of a naturally occurring metal. The titanium is light, strong and hypoallergenic - its weight to strength relationship is startling. The metals are both chemical-resistant, with pure gold resistant to all chemicals except acqua regia.

The titanium is not polished after treating because the color contrast would be lost . The heat-treatment gives the subtle dark contrast to the gold that a polished surface would not. The gold becomes burnished by wear in a way different to any other metal.

Our position as artist and hand-worker of many decades is that rings should not be worn while participating in sports or heavy work. It may jeopardize the health and well being of the wearer and the artwork.
